'm tori campbell. it's friday, march 15th. >>> breaking news in san francisco. a wild chain of events led officers to shoot at a carjacked taxicab. it all began at jackson and buchanan street. shots were fired at jackson and spruce and it ended at fort mason. that's where brian flores is. >> reporter: we're live here in fort mason. you are taking a live look here. that's the taxicab vandalized and then later stolen. the suspect was later taken into custody. we want to go to the new video just into the ktvu newsroom. a suspect vandalized a taxicab around jackson and bu can son. the driver of the taxicab got out, confronted the suspect, there was some type of confrontation and then somehow the suspect entered the taxi and drove away with it. now, sfpd was able to find the driver. what we're hearing is the suspect rammed the taxi into a patrol car. we're also hearing that shots were later fired but the suspect was able to escape until he go the here in the fort mason area. -- until he got here in the fort mason area. back out here live at fort mason, officers are still around the area, surro

information about his energy policy. ktvu kyla campbell is live in washington, d.c. newsroom with a sneak peek at what the president will be doing. kyla. >> reporter: dave, the president says the u.s. has made great strides in recent years to create its own energy and it relies less on oil and gas from other countries. but the president says more needs to be done and he needs help from congress. president obama wants to invest there are 2 billion -- wants to invest $2 billion over the next decade in renewable sources. the president is calling on congress to create a new energy security trust. that would include research funding to improve home grown bio fuels and vehicles that run on electricity. he says imports are at a 20- year low. and they are releasing a report saying america as a whole is spending less on gas. the number of hybrid vehicles doubling over the last five years and say there is are six- times as many car models that get $30 miles per gallon or more. there are more details about the president's plan how wind and solar energy will play a

-- 58 year old joseph campbell -- entered a dicks sporting goods just after 7 pm on saturday. he pointed a handgun at a worker and demanded an unlocked shotgun and ammunition. campbell then took the shotgun and locked himself in the bathroom. the store and nearby businesses were evacuated during the four-hour long standoff. a small plane crash in indiana has killed two people and injured several others. authorities say the jet crashed into at least three houses this afternoon. the f-a-a says two of the four people on board died -- and three people were taken to the hosptial with non life-threatening injuries. the pilot reported a problem with electrical power on approach to the airport. investigators say the jet took off from tulsa, oklahoma and went down about eight miles from the south bend regional airport. the department of defense is releasing the names of the five service members that were killed last monday in afghanistan when their helicopter went down. they are staff sergeant marc ski-aldo. staff sergeant steven blass. chief warrant officer bryan henderson. specialist zachary sh

. >>> president obama is leaving the white house to take his energy policy on the road. ktvu's kyla campbell is live in our washington, d.c. bureau to tell us how this could benefit the bay area. >> reporter: dave, the president wants to give funding to states that produce clean energy. we know the bay area has been innovative when it comes to this. if this passes it could mean more jobs. president obama says since etook office, the u.s. has doubled from wind and solar sources and the u.s. reliance on gas and oil from other countries is at a 20-year low. he says more needs to be done and he's calling on congress. this plan includes investing $23 billion over the -- $2 billion over the next decks aid in energy and research to make it happen. president obama says there's enough natural gas in the u.s. to provide 100 years worth of resources. he says it needs to be tapped in a safe way. president obama is expected to get opposition from republicans when he details this plan this afternoon at a plant in illinois. why some believe it's just one way to tax ene
